I think that educational games and videos can easily get students attention at school. When a student is not interested in a topic, electronics can pull their attention back to learning. Also phones are very versitile. A student can have a calculator, translator, dictionary, thesaurus, etc. on their desk in a single mobile device. Since I am a math major I am interested in how mobile devices can aid in teaching mathematical concepts. There are many math games and apps on mobile devices that are educational for students. Like I said, students who do not like math might enjoy playing a multiplication game on their device.
I am very interested in the use of mobile devices in the classroom to keep students interested in the material, and to promote learning and research. I also see disadvantages of mobile devices. I think it is important for our students to learn how to communicate without a screen in front of their face. I personally would not use mobile devices for discussions for this reason. I think that it takes away from face-to-face communication. I also know that students can become easily distracted when they have a mobile device on their desks. Teachers would have to set limits for times that students could use devices and also prohibit games and messaging that would distract the students from learning. Lastly, I do not like to read ebooks because they hurt my eyes. I wonder if that would also be a problem for students.
